Bardo

Synopsis

Deep breaths, experiences that dig even deeper, and dark ambience as their companion. Inspired by Bardo, the Tibetan name for the liminal state between death and rebirth, Viera Čákanyová embarks on a fascinating metaphysical journey towards darkness. Through generative animation, she sets matter and thoughts into motion. In the end, returning to reality may be the greatest challenge.

Directors' Biography

Viera Čákanyová graduated in Documentary Film at FAMU, Prague. She gained acclaim for her post-human trilogy (FREM, White on White, Notes from Eremocene), screened at Berlinale and numerous festivals worldwide. Her full retrospective was shown on Tënk (2023) and at Taiwan IDFF (2024).
