Synopsis

This film’s experimental editing brings together various motifs, some of which were filmed from television sets, and some of which are by Scheirl himself: suburban homes, the sphinxes in the garden of Vienna’s Belvedere Palace, a train ride, a fashion show, a Concorde taking off, a woman swimming, a dandy-figure in a black suit, the artist filming his own shadow as he walks or as he skis straight down a slope, and more. Sound is provided by the song “Planet Claire” by the new wave band The B-52’s.

Directors' Biography

Ashley Hans Scheirl (*1956, Salzburg) is a Vienna-based artist known for experimental films like Flaming Ears (1992) and Dandy Dust (1998). Active in queer and trans art scenes, Scheirl has worked in New York and London and represented Austria at the 2022 Venice Biennale with Jakob Lena Knebl.
